Re: Slow startup?

I'm stepping through the initialization code in IcedTea-Web and it seems like there is a 12 second delay in the line indicated below in JNLPPolicy.java where it calls getInstance(). The policyLocation string looks like "file://C:\Users\username\.config\icedtea-web\security\java.policy". Any ideas ho...

Re: Slow startup?

Elapsed time from disappearance of "Karakun" splash to our app appearing, for various OWS versions (in seconds, approx) 1.2.1 -> 5 secs 1.2.2 -> 5 secs 1.3.0 -> 17 secs 1.3.1 -> 15 secs 1.3.2 -> 15 secs 1.3.3 -> 14 secs 3.0.0-alpha2 -> 4 secs Notice the big jump starting with 1.3.0 - is this a known...

Re: Slow startup?

I was mistaken in my initial report; the startup time is not 40 seconds but more like 14 seconds. This is still much slower then Java Webstart which startup up within 1-2 seconds - basically instantaneously as far as user perception goes because it is fast and because there always seems to be someth...

Slow startup?

Our internal test users are noting a noticeable delay in starting up our app vs JWS. After the Karakun banner appears and disappears it can take 30-40 seconds for the application to startup. Note that this delay would be acceptable if the user was presented with some kind of "Please wait" notificati...

Re: Allow user to accept JNLP security requests?

No problem, your product is amazing so I am OK with the documentation not being complete just yet.

So is my interpretation of this setting corect then?

Re: Allow user to accept JNLP security requests?

From looking at the IcedTea-Web source code, this setting appears to allow the system to present a dialog to the user when a JNLP service is used but is not otherwise permitted programmatically. Setting this to true allows the user to make that security determination.

[SOLVED] Support for deployment.security.level?

I do not see any mention in the OWS guides regarding deployment.security.level. Is it possible to set this property via deployment.properties or via the Settings app? https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/jcp/properties.html If absent, it seems that the default is ASK_UNSIGNED,...

[SOLVED] Documentation bug

The OWS Guide linked below states that the default value for "proxy type" is "manual proxy". In my experience it seems to actually default to "system". https://openwebstart.com/docs/OWSGuide.html#_configuration_properties_overview deployment.proxy.type The proxy type that should be used. Possible va...

[SOLVED] Allow user to accept JNLP security requests?

In the Security tab of the settings app there is a checkbox for "Allow user to accept JNLP security requests". It seems to default to "checked"

What is the meaning of this setting? Thanks!

Re: Support for Deployment Rule Sets?

Thanks for the response.

So OWS will simply ignore any Deployment Rule Sets, but will still successfully invoke webstart apps right?

Support for Deployment Rule Sets?

I Just learned about an oracle feature called "Deployment Rule Sets", which provides added security on client PCs that run webstart apps. In a nutshell the client PC needs to have a signed xml file containing rules that are matched against a webstart app that is trying to run. The rule can permit/de...

Re: IE does not "Open" jnlpx content

For me, In Windows Setting > Apps > Default Apps, there are three identical-looking OWS choices. I have installed and re-installed OWS many times on my local box for my evaluation which may explain this. Each time was "For just this user" since I do not have admin privileges on my box. I've tried se...

Re: IE does not "Open" jnlpx content

I forgot to mention: My co-worker is having the same problem as me. It wouldn't matter if OWS is installed per-user instead of for all users on the machine, right?

Re: IE does not "Open" jnlpx content

Using .jnlp extension had the same (bad) result for me. However if I assoociate .jnlp with Oracle's Java WebStart then it worked. I'm wondering if my problem is environmental; my control panel shows 4 instances of OWS installed including 1.1.7 and 3 instances of 1.1.8. I'll get these cleaned out by ...

IE does not "Open" jnlpx content

We are seeing an issue with Internet Explorer (surprise) 11. We have associated only the "jnlpx" extension to OpenWebStart, not "jnlp" (on purpose). When we download a .jnlpx file to the browser, we get a popup at the bottom saying: "Do you want to open or save filename.jnlpx (2.40 KB) from hostname...

OWS Installer Archive?

Is there an archive of old OpenWebStart installers? We might like to specify a certain version of OWS for our customer, but AFAIK the current OWS downloads page only shows the latest version.

Thanks,
John

Re: Dpes the OWS installer uses Windows Registry?

So is it fair to say that the registry entries are in support of OS integration, and not for storage of user preferences or other settings? There is a deployment.properties in the user's home dir as well as a .appletTrustSettings file that contains user settings, AFAIK. Are there other config/settin...

Dpes the OWS installer uses Windows Registry?

Does the OWS installer store/fetch anything from the windows Registry? Does OWS use the Windows Registry at all?

I suspect not, but I wanted to ask to be sure. Thanks!

Re: deployment.assumeFileSystemInCodebase?

Thanks. FYI we do not use this "local file" capability, we just wanted to be clear on its functionality. which you've clarified. Seems a bit dodgy to trust local content IMO
