Hello,

we would like to suggest an option to disable the “Purge” button in the OpenWebStart launch error dialog.

In our environment, users sometimes click this button when a JNLP application fails to start, assuming that it is the recommended solution.
For one of our applications, purging the cache also removes the application’s desktop icons. This causes significant confusion, as users may assume that the application has been uninstalled.

We would still like users and administrators to be able to purge the cache through the OpenWebStart Settings.
The requested restriction should apply only to the “Purge” button in the launch error dialog.

Would it be possible to introduce a configuration property such as:

ows.launcher.error-dialog.purge.enabled=false

This would be particularly useful for centrally managed enterprise environments.

You are suggesting a property "ows.launcher.error-dialog.purge.enabled=false" to be specified in the deployment.properties file to suppress the "Purge" button in the Launch Error Dialog. This can be done. However, to understand your requirement better, may I ask you how you are rolling out OWS to users in your enterprise environment? For example:

Do you have a centrally located deployment.properties file?
or
Are you using the System configuration (https://openwebstart.com/docs/OWSGuide. ... stallation) ?
or
Are you using unattended installation with response.varfile having predefined set of deployment properties (https://openwebstart.com/docs/OWSGuide. ... stallation)?

Then I guess you do not have a problem if you have to add this new property "ows.launcher.error-dialog.purge.enabled=false" to the deployment.properties on every user's machine when the new version of OWS is rolled out in your company.

Just to make sure I understand—this option isn't available in the latest version yet; it still needs to be programmed, right?

Also, an alternative solution could be to add a confirmation dialog "Do you really want to clean the OWS cache?" when the user inadvertently presses the "Purge" button in the "Launch Failure" dialog. Which solution do you prefer: hiding the "Purge" button through a property or a confirmation dialog?

Hiding would be much better!

I think that if the user clicks “Purge,” they'll most likely confirm the warning without giving it a second thought.
