Hi there,
I need some help with errors upon trying to use a website that utilizes JNLP files.
The site itself is very old and requires Java v8 (Quebec Land Registry site) but we want to circumvent this as Java is so expensive commercially, by using OpenWebStart ideally.
Can someone make sense of any of these errors?
Any advice appreciated.
Thank you!

Re: Help with errors upon trying to use JNLP files
Your error occurs because javax.xml.ws (JAX‑WS) classes like HandlerResolver were removed from the JDK starting with Java 11. As can be seen in the screenshot OWS is downloading Java 21 to run your application. You need to configure OWS to use Java to run your application: https://openwebstart.com/docs/OWSGuide. ... management.
Re: Help with errors upon trying to use JNLP files
Thank you for the advice - apologies I'm new to this App and not very savvy with it.
I tried with Eclipse and Azul Zulu JDKs added in that menu (which I believe should help), but it still fails to open the JNLP somehow.
See the screenshot.

Re: Help with errors upon trying to use JNLP files
Did you configure OWS to use Java 8 to run your application? What JRE version is specified in the Jnlp file?
Please send the OWS logs (refer to OWS Guide). However, this is a public forum so you have to be careful to mask sensitive data that you would not like others to see. You can consider buying paid support https://openwebstart.com/support/ for a private channel.

Re: Help with errors upon trying to use JNLP files
Hi Janak,
Thanks for the advice!
I did add what I thought might be helpful JVMs. (see attached).
The site specifies it wants Java (JRE 1.8). Do I need to edit the JNLP file after it has downloaded but before it has been opened like this?
<resources>
2
<j2se version="1.8+" />
3
</resources>
If so, would this need to be done everytime they click a JNLP link? Or how do I enforce this on all the users and files I want this on.

Re: Help with errors upon trying to use JNLP files
You can remove Java 25 from the JVM Manager list. Keep Java 8. Then in the "JVM Manager > Settings..." choose "Do not download any version". Then your Jnlp with specification "1.8+" will match the Java 8 in JVM manager and use it to run this Jnlp application.
For other Jnlp applications, it depends on what Java version they have specified in their Jnlp file.
How many users do you have, meaning on how many machines have you installed OWS? You will have to configure JVM Manager for each installation. Alternatively you can use System Wide configuration: https://openwebstart.com/docs/OWSGuide. ... figuration.
